Your children are probably overwhelmed with school responsibilities and other activities and  sometimes it can be difficult to fulfill them all properly. Time is a valuable and scarce resource and making good use of it is an important skill that goes beyond the academic context. For this reason, at The Tutoring Center in Houston, we would like to tell you about some ideas to help your children manage their time.

Create a Timetable

Planning the day of your children is relatively easy and the most usual way to achieve this is a calendar. Write down the estimated duration for each activity and include time for breaks. Don’t forget to praise their efforts. Keep in mind that homework should be their priority, just remember that ‘a sound mind is a sound body’, so try to engage your children with the sport of their choice, too.

Study Space

Your children will have problems focusing in the TV room or on their beds. That’s why it’s important to have a  study space in your house, which will allow them get in the right mindframe to study. This place should be well-lit, and remember to provide your children with the school supplies they need, so they don’t get distracted looking for materials.

Distractions

There are many things that can divert the attention of your children, so don’t forget to remove them from the study space. It’s important that you identify the distractions; watch your children while they study so you can spot them.

These simple ideas are a huge step toward beating procrastination and helping your children reach their academic goals. Reading is another important ability that should be instilled from a young age, so be sure to read this previous post containing useful information on engaging reluctant readers
