For most of HISD, there is now less than a month before school starts. Teachers are already moving in to planning mode, and some of the charters and private schools are going back even sooner. With back to school so close, we've been getting questions about when to start tutoring, and also if it's too late to get a jump start on the new year.

One of the many reasons The Tutoring Center doesn't charge for our diagnostic assessment is to make it as painless and low stress as possible. If you're wondering if and when you need to start tutoring, this is a great way to start that conversation. There is no obligation to sign up after the test, and you'll receive a free test consultation to discuss all of your questions, as well as hear recommendations for tutoring for the coming year and beyond. So, the best answer to the question about when to start tutoring, is simply to schedule your free diagnostic to find out.

While there are no universal rules in education, it is pretty common for schools to spend the first 6, 9, or even 12 weeks reviewing material to help students catch up from Summer brain drain. If you've been thinking about getting your child into tutoring to get a jump start on next year, it's still not too late. Throughout the month of August you can get started, and get ahead of that review process, so that by the time your school is working on new material, your child could be well ahead. Our general rule is to keep all students 6 months to 1 year ahead of their normed grade level so that they have consistent academic performance. If you aren't sure your child is that far ahead, now is the time to schedule a diagnostic.

Summer time is almost over (academically not temperature), but there's still plenty of time to get your child some help to ensure academic success.
